The Film Festival Day!

Last week on Wednesday the 8th our whole school here at Ruapotaka went to the film festival, we were in Room 2 with St Pius X.  I was confused when we saw Point England and Tamaki College speaking but it was fine and the movie was quite cool. Out of our school I think room 5, 1 and 4's were one of the best.  Most of our class were laughing when our film came up on the screen.

Film Festival Word Bank!

Since last week Tuesday, Mrs Grant told our class that we had to work on a word bank she set up some slide decks and made some slides that was of her reading about some things in the movie Inside Out. She chose that movie because it has a lot of emotions and has powerful words in there. In the movie this girl called Riley has 5 emotions in her brain controlling her they are, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear. The bad part is when Sadness touches one of the core memories it turns blue and sad and then Joy and Sadness get Sucked away and so Anger, Fear and Disgust have to take over Riley's brain while Joy and Sadness try to get back.

Cockroaches On The Menu!!

Kiwis
Screenshot 2017-09-13 at 10.04.16 AM.pngIntroduction:
Today I will be writing a Description about Kiwis
Colour:
The colour of Kiwis are brown usually they are dark brown because they live in forests that are muddy. Kiwis are sometimes hard to see because their skin tone can match objects around the forests.
Size:
The size a Kiwi is 2.20 pounds and their height is 20 inches It is the same size as a female chicken. Kiwis are very small. Not all but some are small and some are big.
Food:
Kiwis eat tinier things than them like Spiders, Earthworms, Larvaes, Centipedes, Beetles, Snails, Frogs, Cockroaches, Wetas, Caterpillars,  Crickets and Chrysalises.
Predators:
The predators of Kiwis are Ferrets, Cats, Dogs, Possums, Weasels and Stoats. Sometimes Kiwis can come across Possum traps and fall into it. It is easy for the predators to attack the Kiwi because it is quite slow.
Habitats:
Kiwis like to live in the Forests or Snowy places. When they’re there they are kind of Warm but mostly Cold that’s why they have feathers. It is good for them to live in Snowy places more than the Forests because their predators will get cold and run back.
In Conclusion:

In conclusion Kiwis are very special and Native to Aotearoa (New Zealand). Not that many Kiwis are in Aotearoa because they have been killed and that is sad.

Orienteering

On Tuesday my class Room 9 had orienteering with Leon. Last week Tuesday he came in to teach us about it and he told us it was kind of dangerous because some people get concussions. Then finally we got to do it this week, our class were so pumped to do it and most of us were ready. We did orienteering around the school even near the pool! It was pretty cool seeing how it was. If something sounds boring to you give it a try it might be as fun as this!

Not So Fast

On Wednesday my group and I did a play from this School Journal called Not So Fast. This is part 2, number 4 and from 2007. The people in my group are Kotipi, Frank and Kate but in the play there was one more person left so Limiteti took it. I was the Second Sports Commentator, Kotipi was the first, Kate was the Coach, Limiteti was Tina and Frank was Sam. It was a sports race but it is more confusing it was to see who was the slowest walker.

My Tangram House!

A tangram is a puzzle made up of 7 shapes. The tangram really challenged my mind to the test to see if I could solve it but I think I failed.

The first few tries I failed but then Shaniqua helped me figure it out, Mrs Riley showed Shaniqua how to do it.

One keyboard tip was Shift and the arrow pointing to the right and  another is Alt and the arrow pointing to the left.

Why We All Need To Sleep!

Today, I will explain to you why we need to sleep.

First of all we need to sleep because if we are going somewhere we will be very lazy then the people will think we are lazy. Also, when applying for a job or going to school the next day we will need lots of sleep because people will say “sleep early”.
Next, everyone should at least have eight hours of sleep, if they sleep longer it is fine at least they won’t be that tired in the morning. Sleep can actually help you focus more.

Finally, sleep is important because it can make you grow more and make you smart. Even in dreams it can actually teach you something.

The Time I Was Proud Of Myself...

Intro- Kia Ora today I am writing about when I was proud of myself. It is about when I had a maths test, I did mine late after the others because I was away.

Middle 1-It was in June when it happened, we were doing our science with room 10 then Mrs Riley (my teacher) called me and Nurul to do the test. For each sheet we had 50  questions but the time me and Nurul had was 4 minutes.

Middle 2- The next day Mrs Riley told me my result, when I heard it I was proud of myself a lot. Each of our class got letters like A B C D and E. I got an A- and my friend Kotipi got a B- her score was 131 and mine was 168 which made me an A-.

In conclusion I am very proud of myself and also Kotipi for getting the two highest marks.

Tongan Spit Fires

Spitfires were introduced in The Second World War against Germany in 1939.

They had to prepare fast, they figured out the fastest way to raise money during the war so they danced, had concerts and special market days. There was a lot of money raised but the Queen, Queen Salote wanted her people to raise more money.

Long time ago Spitfires were the best planes in Europe. If they raised five pounds the could buy a plane for their British allies. The queen donated 10 percent of her income and so did the officials and the government. On the first day of March in 1942 the British RAF (Royal Air Force) got a special delivery from the Tongan people, it was a new Spit Fire with Queen Salote’s name on it.

From that time more money was raised there was a second spit fire was presented in November 1943. The second was called Prince Tungi number 2 after Queen Salote’s husband.

The Best Collage Ever!

  • In Room 9 we have been learning how to make a comic collage.
  • Each box has a speech bubble and inside it is something that talks about what you should do.
  • I enjoyed creating it because it is fun adding different colours and shapes.
  • If I ever do another comic collage I would try to make a bigger one.

My Report On School!

My report was on school it is about  children going to school, when they get their Chromebook, homework and things that could happen if they're bad. Also I talked about the different subjects they would learn.

Our Great Karakia

For the past 5 weeks we have been learning a Karakia, Mrs Riley has been teaching the Junior and Senior syndicate how it goes. The karakia uses actions for the whole thing, we kept on practising until we got it right, we have been practising the karakia and a song. Mrs Riley came and taught our classroom Room 9 then the seniors and lastly the juniors. For the juniors it took some time but the seniors were quite easier I think. She would make us say it over and over again.

Skoolbo

When we started school in 2017 after a few weeks Mrs Riley our teacher in room nine gave us our Skoolbo accounts. If you don't know what Skoolbo is it is a learning site to help increase your learning if you get a certificate it means you achieved something. Sometimes the school you attend will give you a big plastic skoolbo cup. When you click the contents button it will bring up lots of  activities you can play it brings up a Category it has Literacy, Numeracy and Language. Literacy is about words, spelling, colours, reading, the alphabet, verbs, adjectives and nouns.

Cybersmart Learning

In room 9 at  Ruapotaka  school we have Mrs Grant come in on Tuesdays and teach us about using specific words to comment on blogs. We learn different information about it every Tuesday with Mrs Grant. Also we did a top tip on something that is on your Chromebook so I chose to do the help center.
